Description5Z-Caffeoylquinic acid, also known as 5Z-caffeoylquinate or trans-neochlorogenic acid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as quinic acids and derivatives. Quinic acids and derivatives are compounds containing a quinic acid moiety (or a derivative thereof), which is a cyclitol made up of a cyclohexane ring that bears four hydroxyl groups at positions 1,3.4, and 5, as well as a carboxylic acid at position 1. 5Z-Caffeoylquinic acid is found, on average, in the highest concentration within a few different foods, such as bilberries (Vaccinium myrtillus), peanuts (Arachis hypogaea), and common wheats (Triticum aestivum). 5Z-Caffeoylquinic acid has also been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as globe artichokes (Cynara scolymus), wild leeks (Allium ampeloprasum), green tea, olives (Olea europaea), and potatos (Solanum tuberosum). This could make 5Z-caffeoylquinic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on 5Z-Caffeoylquinic acid.
