Common NameJuniper camphor
DescriptionJuniper camphor is a member of the class of compounds known as sesquiterpenoids. Sesquiterpenoids are terpenes with three consecutive isoprene units. Juniper camphor is practically insoluble (in water) and an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Juniper camphor can be found in ginger, which makes juniper camphor a potential biomarker for the consumption of this food product.
