There are two vessels A and B. A has one litre of water. B has one litre of milk. 1 litre is equal to 1000ml. Now hundred ml of milk is taken out from vessel B and added to the water in vessel A. It becomes a mixture of water and milk. Now 100 ml of this mixture of water and milk is taken out from the vessel A and added to the milk in vessel B. It becomes a mixture of water and milk . Now the question is which of the following is more :- 1). the quantity of 'milk' mixed in water, in vessel A. OR 2). the quantity of 'water' mixed in milk, in vessel B.

In my opinion 100 ml milk was added to water. When 100ml water was added to milk, this 100 ml of water is mixed with milk. So the correct answer is (1).

My answer also1. 100 ml of milk was added to vessel A which had taken from vessel B. So, vessel A contains 1100 ml of water and milk mixture. Again, 100 ml mixture of water and milk was taken from vessel A and addded to vessel B (900ml of milk) . Now, both vessels have 1000ml of mixture but vessel A contains more milk than quantity of water mixed in vessel B.

Now take 100 ml of milk from vessel B and add it to the water in vessel A. Now vessel A will have 1000 ml of water and 100 ml of milk. The total quantity of the mixture of water and milk in the vessel A is now 1100 ml. (Now vessel B has only 900 ml of milk.) This 1100 ml of the mixture of water and milk contains 100 ml of milk. Hence the ratio milk : total quantity of the mixture = 100:1100 which is the same as 100 / 1100 = 1/11. ----------------------------- If you take any quantity , say, 200 ml , 300 ml, 700 ml, …. each quantity will have 1/11 milk. that is 200×1/11 ml , 300 ×1/11 ml , 700 ×1/11 ml.. respectively. Hence 100 ml of this mixture will have 100 × 1/11 ml of milk and 100 × 10/11 ml of water. Hence the milk content of 100 ml of this mixture = 100 × 1 / 11 ml = 100 / 11 ml…….. (Equation 1 ) And the water content of 100 ml of this mixture = 100 × 10/11 ml = 1000 / 11 ml. ( Equation 2 ) Now 100 ml of this mixture from vessel A is transferred to vessel B. Now both vessel A and vessel B (each) will have 1000 ml of a mixture of water and milk. Now quantity of water content in 1000 ml of vessel B = 1000 / 11 ml. ( as per equation 2 above ). Hence ratio of water : total quantity = 1000 / 11 divided by 1000 = 1000 / 11000 = 1/11 Hence 100 ml of this mixture will contain water = 100 × 1 /11 = 100 / 11 ml which is the same as the quantity of milk contained in the mixture in vessel A.( vide Equation 1 ).
