Furan is a five-membered aromatic ring with four carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. Wine lactone is a sweet, coconut, and dill tasting compound. Wine lactone has been detected, but not quantified in, alcoholic beverages. This could make wine lactone a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. Based on a literature review very few articles have been published on Wine lactone.
