Name Galactoside 2-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase 1
Synonyms
  1. Alpha(1,2)FT 1
  2. Blood group H alpha 2-fucosyltransferase
  3. Fucosyltransferase 1
  4. GDP-L-fucose:beta-D-galactoside 2-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase 1
Gene Name FUT1
Protein Type Enzyme
Biological Properties
General Function Involved in galactoside 2-alpha-L-fucosyltransferase activity
Specific Function Creates a soluble precursor oligosaccharide FuC-alpha ((1,2)Galbeta-) called the H antigen which is an essential substrate for the final step in the soluble A and B antigen synthesis pathway. H and Se enzymes fucosylate the same acceptor substrates but exhibit different Km values.
Pathways
  • Glycosphingolipid biosynthesis - globo and isoglobo series
  • Glycosphingolipid biosynthesis - lacto and neolacto series
  • protein glycosylation
