Identification
HMDB Protein ID HMDBP05675
Secondary Accession Numbers
  • 11274
Name Electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter 4
Synonyms
  1. NBCe2
  2. Solute carrier family 4 member 5
Gene Name SLC4A5
Protein Type Transporter
Biological Properties
General Function Involved in anion transport
Specific Function Mediates sodium- and bicarbonate-dependent electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransport, with a Na(+):HCO3(-) stoichiometry of 2:1. May have a housekeeping function in regulating the pH of tissues in which it is expressed. May play a role in mediating Na(+):HCO3(-) cotransport in hepatocytes and intrahepatic cholangiocytes. Also may be important in protecting the renal paranchyma from alterations in urine pH
