Identification
HMDB Protein ID HMDBP07639
Secondary Accession Numbers
  • 13348
Name Cation channel sperm-associated protein 3
Synonyms
  1. Ca(v)-like protein
  2. CatSper3
  3. One-repeat calcium channel-like protein
Gene Name CATSPER3
Protein Type Unknown
Biological Properties
General Function Involved in ion channel activity
Specific Function Voltage-gated calcium channel that plays a central role in sperm cell hyperactivation. Controls calcium entry to mediate the hyperactivated motility, a step needed for sperm motility which is essential late in the preparation of sperm for fertilization. Activated by intracellular alkalinization
