Essential for synaptic vesicle maturation in most excitatory/glutamatergic but not inhibitory/GABA-mediated synapses. Also involved in secretory granule priming in insulin secretion. Interacts with FBXO45 (via SRY domain); leading to the degradation of UNC13A by the proteasome
