Identification
HMDB Protein ID HMDBP08718
Secondary Accession Numbers
  • 14440
Name Serine/threonine-protein kinase/endoribonuclease IRE1
Synonyms
  1. Endoplasmic reticulum-to-nucleus signaling 1
  2. Endoribonuclease
  3. IRE1a
  4. Inositol-requiring protein 1
  5. Ire1-alpha
  6. Serine/threonine-protein kinase
  7. hIRE1p
Gene Name ERN1
Protein Type Unknown
Biological Properties
General Function Involved in endoribonuclease activity, producing 5'-phosphomonoesters
Specific Function Senses unfolded proteins in the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum via its N-terminal domain which leads to enzyme auto- activation. The active endoribonuclease domain splices XBP1 mRNA to generate a new C-terminus, converting it into a potent unfolded-protein response transcriptional activator and triggering growth arrest and apoptosis
