Metabolite Identification
Common NameSchisanhenol
DescriptionSchisanhenol belongs to the class of organic compounds known as hydrolyzable tannins. These are tannins with a structure characterized by either of the following models. In model 1, the structure contains galloyl units (in some cases, shikimic acid units) that are linked to diverse polyol carbohydrate-, catechin-, or triterpenoid units. In model 2, contains at least two galloyl units C-C coupled to each other, and do not contain a glycosidically linked catechin unit. Based on a literature review a significant number of articles have been published on Schisanhenol. This compound has been identified in human blood as reported by (PMID: 31557052 ). Schisanhenol is not a naturally occurring metabolite and is only found in those individuals exposed to this compound or its derivatives. Technically Schisanhenol is part of the human exposome. The exposome can be defined as the collection of all the exposures of an individual in a lifetime and how those exposures relate to health. An individual's exposure begins before birth and includes insults from environmental and occupational sources.
